Happy 1st Birthday Jakoby

Today Jakoby has officially provided us with one year of joy and wonder. He did not seem to understand this as he was being clingy and cranky before heading off to day care, thou I attribute that to him needing more sleep. Despite this morning's episode, we could not have hoped for a more happy, joyful and loving little boy. We thank God every day for the blessing that he has given us.
Jakoby was lucky enough to get two parties over this weekend full of friends and family. Here are the photos. Saturday's party was a little rough for him as he was still getting over the stomach bug he had during the week and didn't get quite enough of a morning nap. Sunday morning he slept much better and this time had plenty of energy for digging into his birthday (soy-free/dairy-free) chocolate cup cake. Happy birthday Jakoby. |

The website is back.

Some of you may have noticed that my website was down for a week or so. I was having an unknown problem with my network and/or server and have built a replacement server this past week. Last night was finally able to reinstate the website for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully things are all running smoothly (if not, let me know in the comments). After getting it set back up, I immediately uploaded some Jakoby pictures for your viewing pleasure, although there are many more that still need to be added.
The new server is much quieter and runs cooler than the previous machine. It is also more powerful while using less energy. At some point I will put together a report covering the build and the transferring of the website over to it.
I also have plans in mind to change this website to use a different content management system (CSV) which may run better and provide me with better set of tools to run it. Keep an eye out for a redesign.
I have not fixed the emailing problem yet. I have found instructions online that may fix this, I just need to go try them. |

WRX Sold And Gone
| |
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - 10:43 PM Posted by: kdickson
|
 |
This may come as a surprise to some, but last week I sold my 2002 Subaru WRX. Oh sad day. It provided me with a little over 8 years and 94.6k miles of trouble free fun. A great car, but now with a baby and all the products he drags along with him, we decided to replace it with a vehicle with greater cargo capacity. As an additional surprise the WRX has been replaced by a Highlander. I know, I know ... it's an SUV, the very vehicle I thought I would never buy. However, we were able to find a lightly used hybrid version at a reasonable outlay of cash. So now I have gone from working on tight corning to perfecting gasoline efficiency. Its not a sports car but so far the Highlander is working out nicely.
Of course, now the question is ... what should I do about my site's logo? |

- walking with support now
- can go up but not down stairs
- looked quite dapper on Easter
- has a top tooth coming in
- has now been to 12 states

Baby Boom: 2007 is the winner
| |
Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 02:31 PM Posted by: kdickson
|
 |
A preliminary report from the CDC is showing that 2007 might be a record year for the number of births in the US. An estimated 4,317,119 births in 2007 is 1% more than in 2006. (chart)
We have had local evidence of a baby boom just among our circle of friends and family, so perhaps 2008 will be another banner year. Around here we've been speculating that pregnancy is contagious. The fact that the CDC (Center for Disease Control) compiled this report only adds support to this theory. |

Forward Movement
| |
Thursday, February 26, 2009 - 03:58 PM Posted by: kdickson
|
 |
For a few weeks now, Jakoby has been able to freely rotate around on his stomach and too push himself backwards. This usually allowed him to move around until he got backed up to a piece of furniture at which which point the crying would start.
Yesterday evening Jakoby made his first forward movement in the crawling method. I am trying to make a distinction here since he has been able to lunge forward from a seated position (leave him trashing about on his stomach) or by pushing off from something. For now, he can only make single small moves forward but I am sure he'll get the hang of it before too long.
UPDATE: Sunday afternoon (March 1), Jakoby definitely crawled on hands and knees. Plus, I was able to capture video of it happening for your enjoyment. |

"How cold was it?"
It was so cold I was scrapping ice off the inside of my windshield ... seriously. Negative four degrees Fahrenheit. |

Baby's First Christmas
| |
Monday, January 05, 2009 - 09:52 PM Posted by: kdickson
|
 |
Jakoby's first Christmas experience has come and gone. Personally, I'm not sure why people make such a big deal of these things. He enjoyed the wrapping paper but I am sure that he won't remember which noisy gifts he receive this year. Other milestones are much more notable. Since my last post, he can now pull himself up to a standing position and has cut his first tooth. |

Rolling, First Snow and Playing with Toesies

Jakoby is closing in on 6 months old. He has recently learned how to roll from his back to his stomach, found that he could hold his toes and didn't know what to make of snow. |
