Whatever the God of heaven has prescribed, let it be done with diligence for the temple of the God of heaven. Why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and of this sons?

Truth in the Coin Shop
Friday, September 05, 2008 - 09:00 AM        Posted by: kdickson
News "And who decides what the values of these old coins are? The coins might bear the likeness of a politician. They might bear the name of the nation-state. But these pictures and slogans are merely interlopers on the real point. What you hold is valuable not because some legislature, treasury department, or central bank says it is valuable. Its worth was and is dictated by the market, which is to say, the choices and values of human beings. No government can add to or take away this value except by physically manipulating the coin itself."

A Change In Plans
Monday, August 25, 2008 - 10:08 PM        Posted by: kdickson
Kid News Our vacation plans were derailed this past Friday. The itinerary originally went as such: Drive to the Finger Lakes in New York Friday evening and Saturday morning, attend a wedding on Saturday and then drive to Ontario to visit friends for a few days before coming back on Thursday. All that change very quickly in the wee hours of Friday morning which resulted in a weekend stay at a lovely resort by the name of Children's Hospital.

Codex Sinaiticus Online
Monday, July 28, 2008 - 01:03 PM        Posted by: kdickson
Christianity The Codex Sinaiticus is to be posted in digital form on the internet over the coming year. Although, not a complete manuscript, the Codex Sinaiticus dates to the 4th century BC and is the oldest known copy of the Bible. If you can read Greek, take a look. If not, you can at least read about it on their site or check out the Wikipedia entry.

Now that we have found an internet terminal here at the hospital, we will post some pictures as soon as we can.

Update: Link to album.

Pregnancy Update
Wednesday, May 21, 2008 - 10:27 PM        Posted by: kdickson
News We are now just over 4 weeks to our due date. Crazy, isn't it? Just wanted to relay a few items. Three weekends ago we attend a Prepared Childbirth class conducted by Isis Maternity, hosted at Wild Child in Arlington. This is not the breathing class most people think of, rather it is a class on the logistics of the days leading up to and immediately following childbirth. And two weekends ago we took a guided tour of Beth Israel Deaconess' maternity ward. It was good to know A) how to get to the hospital and B) where to take Becky once we got there. This is very important information. And the day before that was Becky's baby shower hosted by her mother. Our thanks to the friends and family members who came to celebrate.

Last week the doctor told Becky that the baby is currently a little above average in terms of weight. This equates to about an 8 pound baby at birth.

Also thought I should announce that Becky has started a blog about our attempts to use cloth diapers from planning and researching to first use to ... well, we just have to see.

Baby in Three Dimensions
Monday, March 03, 2008 - 10:39 PM        Posted by: kdickson
News Around week 18 we had gone in to get deep ultrasound (where they check on the baby's development). However at the end of the appointment we found that the printer attached to the machine was not functioning and therefore did not go home with any pictures. The doctor's office felt bad about this and later called us about getting 3D imaging of the baby ... for free. This particular office was getting a new 3D ultrasound machine and technician would need some time learning the new machine. We accepted the offer for Becky to be a test subject and by the end of it we had many shots of the baby's face, feet and other parts. The technician was also able to show us the heart, lungs, and his brain. It was an amazing experience.

Back From San Diego
Friday, February 29, 2008 - 10:12 PM        Posted by: kdickson
Galleries The Babymoon is over (sigh). It was a full week of sightseeing in, unfortunately, not your typical Southern California weather. Despite some days being overcast and/or raining we visited Point Loma, La Jolla, Balboa Park, the Zoo as well as traveled out to Los Angeles and Joshua Tree National Park. We had a great time relaxing and sightseeing.

Of course there are many photos of the trip.

Click below for a quick day by day itinerary.

Baby Update
Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - 11:22 PM        Posted by: bex
Kid News We went for our big ultrasound today and the baby was being very cooperative, we were able to clearly see that it is going to be a boy! We are so excited and now have the daunting task of coming up with a name for the baby (we'll take suggestions). The baby looks healthy and has a pretty umbilical cord (according to the technician). The expected due date is June 23rd.
